                                          (All reactions and their description)

                                         Total – 21 Chemical reactions

  1.   Magnesium reacts with oxygen when burning, a dazzling white flame will occur and it will produce white ash powder which is Magnesium oxide.

2Mg   +   O2 –>   2MgO

MgO  – magnesium oxide (white ash product )(Basic in nature)

Combination Reaction –

  • Calcium oxide is reacted with water, it will produce Calcium hydroxide and produce lots of heat.

CaO     +   H2O –> Ca(OH)2  + heat

Here CaO – Quick lime     and    Ca(OH)2 – Slaked lime

  • Carbon di oxide is passed in Calcium hydroxide and we will get milky solution of calcium carbonate.

Ca(OH)2 + CO2 –> CaCO3

CaCO3 – milky solution – known as marble

  • Hydrogen gas is reacted with oxygen gas, the product will be water and we will get lots of heat so the reaction in which heat is released, called exothermic reaction.

        2H2  +    O2 –> 2H2O   + heat

  • Burning of Coal

C (s)    +  O2    –>  CO2

  • Burning of Natural gas

CH4   +   O2  –>  CO2   +   H2O + heat  

  • Respiration Reaction –

C6H12O6    +   6O2    –>   6CO2    +    6H2O   +   energy

Decomposition Reaction

  • Ferrous sulphate decomposed to ferric oxide and sulphur di oxide and sulphur trioxide when heated.

    2 FeSO4 + heat    –> Fe₂O₃   +   SO2    +   SO3

   FeSO4   –  Ferrous Sulphate –  Color of its crystal is light green

   Color changes of ferrous sulphate to ferric oxide (white color)

   SO2  and SO3  are gases – smell is pungent (like a rotton egg)

  • Calcium carbonate is decomposed to calcium oxide and carbon di oxide.

CaCO3   + heat   –> CaO   +   CO2

CaCO3   – calcium carbonate – Limestone

  1. Lead nitrate is converted to lead oxide and nitrogen di oxide and oxygen gas when heated.

2Pb(NO₃)₂    + heat    –>     2PbO    +   4NO2   +  O2

Pb(NO3)2  is lead nitrate – white crystal

PbO    – Lead oxide

NO2    gas (brown fumes)

  1.  Silver chloride is given heated by sunlight, it gets converted into Silver and chlorine gas.

2AgCl    + sunlight   –>  2Ag  +   Cl2

AgCl –  silver chloride –  White

Ag –  silver  –  grey

And

  1. 2AgBr +  sunlight    –>    2Ag  +   Br2

AgBr   –  Silver bromide 

 These reactions are used in black and white photography.

    Displacement Reaction

  1. Copper sulphate solution is reacted with Iron, iron displaced copper and formed iron sulphate and copper.

CuSO4   +     Fe  –>    FeSO4     +     Cu

CuSO4  –   copper sulphate – blue color solution

Fe – Iron  –   silver

FeSO4  –  Iron sulphate – green color faded

Cu – Copper – brown

  1. And

Zn  +    CuSO4    –>   ZnSO4   +  Cu

  1.  And

Pb  +  CuCl2   –>    PbCl2    +  Cu

Double Displacement Reaction

  1.  Two salts Sodium sulphate and barium chloride are reacted to form sodium chloride and barium sulphate.(Precipitation reaction)

Na2SO4    +     BaCl2   –>     2NaCl    +   BaSO4

Na2SO4 – Sodium sulphate

BaCl2   –  Barium chloride

NaCl – Sodium Chloride (dissolved solution)

BaSO4 – Barium sulphate (precipitate)

  1. Lead nitrate and potassium iodide is reacted to form yellow precipitate of lead iodide and potassium nitrate.

Pb(NO3)2    +    2KI   –>    2KNO3    +   PbI2

Pb(NO3)2   – Lead nitrate

KI  – Potassium iodide

KNO3 –  Potassium nitrate

PbI2 – Lead iodide (yellow precipitate)

Oxidation and Reduction reaction

  1. When oxygen is added to copper, it will form copper oxide.

2Cu  +  O2  –>  2CuO

  1. Copper oxide is added to hydrogen gas, it will form water and hydrogen gas.

CuO    +   H2  –>   H2O   +   Cu

  • Other redox reaction  :  

ZnO   +   C  –>  Zn  +  CO

  • MnO2  +  4HCl  –>  MnCl2  + 2H2O  + Cl2
